At the risk of sounding like Chicken Little or the Boy Who Cried Wolf, let me expound for a moment on a subject that’s been echoing through my mind since the Election 2008 fiasco began; firearms.
It’s obvious to anyone that reads my blog or talks to me for any length of time that I am very pro-Second Amendment, pro-self defense, pro-firearm. It’s not even a pro v. con issue for me in that I believe it’s my responsibility as a man to best protect my livelihood and those who depend on it to the fullest extent I am capable; this means the right is fundamental, that as a living, breathing, human being I have certain rights that no government can confer or deny, grant or restrict; it can only respect. Freedom to speak and worship are fundamental rights, as is the right of self-preservation.
A firearm is, generally speaking, often the best tool for that job. Also, given that I’m not capable of killing a deer or other life-giving animal with my bare hands, a firearm is also (again, generally speaking) the best tool for the job. That best tool is likely to be heavily threatened come January 2009.
The Democrat / Socialists vying for the highest office in the land have made their position on firearms clear, repeatedly, loudly, urgently, and I might add, also dangerously. A conscientious voter simply cannot ignore the dangers of electing a Socialist to a position of authority; though they have feel-good slogans and promise to GIVE everyone a fair shake (notice the emphasis on GIVE instead of providing a fair marketplace in which we can EARN; from who do you think the Socialists are going to steal the funds to pay for such a lavish and “equitable” gift?), they have only their best interests at heart.
One of their best interests is to steal our Constitutionally guaranteed rights.
It began with their repeated and unending attempts to erase the Second Amendment from the Constitution; their efforts have been distracted by the recent attempts to erase the First Amendment.
A small aside; it’s a clever tactic. If the First Amendment’s freedom of speech is curtailed or legislatively restricted to only those topics the government approves, how quickly do you think pro-Second Amendment speech will be regulated? Think this is impossible? Did you know that Congress is considering a bill that infringes on the freedom of religion clause of the First Amendment? The bill they are considering makes it a crime for religious leaders (including imams from the new religion de jour, Islam) to speak out against homosexuality, nevermind that in every major religious text there is language discouraging such behavior? So if Congress has the hubris to go after the major religions in the world, representing nearly four billion of the six billion currently alive, what makes you think they won’t go after your freedom of speech?
I’ve strayed; my apologies.
I’ve taken to viewing the upcoming elections like I view a threatening hurricane; I know it’s coming and have no idea where it will strike and have only a rough guess as to when. Knowing that, the only wise and sensible thing to do – prepare. Were a real hurricane bearing down on you or your family, wouldn’t you brave the chaos at the grocery store and buy food, batteries, water, charcoal, etc? Of course you would. With Hurricane Election threatening the entire world come November 2008, we’re left with little to do but prepare.
Preparation for Hurricane Election doesn’t require much food, water, or other common staples (though it’s never a bad idea to have a year’s supply of everything in reserve); this is a good thing in that it frees us to devote the time, attention, and resources to our firearms, the commodity most likely to be threatened by Hurricane Election.
Now is the time to make your firearm purchases. If you have a pistol, buy two more. If you have a rifle or shotgun, buy two more of those as well. If you have two hundred rounds of ammunition, buy ten times more. Buy cleaning kits. Buy reloading materials and educate yourself on how to use them. Go to the firing range to sight-in and practice. Buy more ammunition. Buy spares for your firearms. Buy safes and locks to keep them safe and away from children (and those that are waiting on GIFTS from the government who also steal from those who EARN).
If you don’t own a single firearm, now is the time to do so. Since a firearm is useless without quality ammunition, get that too. If you need help deciding on what to get or how to go about deciding what to get, drop a comment on this blog and I’ll answer those comments with follow-up blog entries.
Without sounding like an alarmist, I cannot emphasize it enough – now is the time.
It is far, far easier to restrict firearms commerce than it is to actually take away what you already own. There's no eminent domain nonsense to wrangle. The only way to get all the firearms from lawful citizens is outright confiscation -- and there isn't an American that would ever stand for that. But, in a crafty, cunning, back-door way, the government has proved its willingness to tell you what you can and cannot purchase, and moved enforcement from demand, to supply. It's cheaper to enforce the supply restrictions than it is to confiscate from the demand side in both money and political captial. Really -- what President or Congressperson wants to go down in history as the architect of America's downfall?
If (and I pray daily it doesn’t happen) the Socialists rise to power in this country, it is clearly on their agenda to remove the rights for lawful, private firearm ownership from the citizens of this country. There is no debate anymore – none – they want to do it, they’re trying to do it, and they will not listen to your opinion while they’re doing it.
Remember what the other Clinton did in the 90’s? What do you think the Senator from New York wants to do? Or the Representatives from California or Massachusetts? Or any of the other Socialists who know that real power is enforced power and the only way an American can enforce his or her Constitutionally guaranteed power is via the Second Amendment? They fear your authority and power and they need to take it away from you. They need to. If they don’t take it away then they work for you instead of rule over you.
Make them work for you.
